The Global Young Leaders Program (GYLP) is a student exchange fully funded by POSCO and POSTECH (Pohang University of Science and Technology). Selected 2nd- and 3rd-year undergraduates from POSTECH’s strategic partner institutions spend one full academic year in Pohang, South Korea. The year combines major coursework (a minimum of six courses), Korean-language instruction, the LEAD+ leadership program, and a short winter research placement. Its aim is to cultivate globally minded next-generation talent through academic study and cultural immersion in Korea. Applicants are nominated through their home institution rather than applying independently.

Eligibility

  • Currently enrolled in the 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree at one of POSTECH’s strategic partner institutions
  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 out of 4.3 (about a B+)
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 90, IELTS Academic 6.5, or Duolingo 120 — waived for students from Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, or the USA
  • Open to all nationalities; candidates are nominated by their home institution’s coordinator

Application process

    Secure a nomination from your home institution’s exchange coordinator
  2. 2
    Prepare the required documents: certificate of enrollment, official transcript, English-proficiency certificate, up to three recommendation letters, passport copy, CV/résumé, a 500–1,000 word statement of purpose, and a 3–10 minute self-introduction video
  3. 3
    Submit the application during the December–February window
  4. 4
    Receive admission results in April and, if selected, prepare for the late-August orientation
