The Post-Graduate Visiting Research Fellowship is a Hungary Foundation program within the Liberty Bridge Program. It supports in-residence research at leading US universities in liberal arts and social sciences where Hungarian academic research is underrepresented.
The fellowship backs work of strategic importance to US–Hungary relations and seeks scholars who can build lasting academic connections. Fellows also join Hungary Foundation professional development, networking, and leadership activities in Washington.
Benefits & funding
- A monthly living stipend for 10 months: US$7,000 for fellows with families or US$5,500 for individuals.
- Round-trip airfare, visa support and fees, and health insurance for the fellow and dependents.
- Up to US$10,000 per fellow for domestic travel and conference support.
- Tailored mentorship, onboarding help, and staff support throughout the stay.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be at least in the third year of a PhD program at a Hungarian academic institution or have received a PhD within the previous five years.
- The call seeks young Hungarian scholars with an outstanding academic record and the motivation to strengthen ties between Hungary and the United States.
- Applicants must already hold an invitation letter from a US host institution when applying.
- Active teaching in Hungary is preferred, not required.

Application process
- 1Secure an invitation from a US host institution identifying the exact department and mentoring professor.
- 2Prepare an English CV with date of birth, citizenship, and publications; a research project statement; three recommendation letters; a host acceptance letter; and a cover letter.
- 3Complete the online form, including three influential books and a maximum 500-word essay on the most critical challenge facing Hungary.
- 4Submit through the official application form; the 2026–27 cycle closed on March 1, 2026.
