The Accelerator Fellowship Programme supports independent projects that translate AI-ethics work into practical impact beyond academia. It is hosted by the University of Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI and welcomes established academics and practitioners from any discipline worldwide.
Fellows work remotely, combine remote participation with visits, or spend a longer period in Oxford. Projects should already be in development, align with the Institute’s research priorities, and have a credible route to measurable impact.
Benefits & funding
- A £2,000 monthly stipend for accommodation, travel, food, and living costs.
- Economy airfare to and from the United Kingdom and visa costs are covered.
- Project costs for workshops, seminars, exhibitions, or public events may be considered case by case.
- Association with the Institute for either 6 or 12 months, plus engagement with Oxford researchers, seminars, discussions, and events.
Eligibility
- Open worldwide to practising professionals and academics from any discipline who hold a continuing organisational role or are otherwise professionally established.
- Applicants with a PhD must show at least two peer-reviewed publications and at least one grant awarded as principal investigator or co-investigator.
- Applicants without a PhD need at least seven years of equivalent professional standing in a relevant specialised field, supported by evidence of expertise, original contributions, recognition, and impact.
- All applicants need English proficiency and a project aligned with the programme mission and at least one Institute research priority.
- United Kingdom work or immigration eligibility applies only to applicants planning visits or an in-person stay; a fully remote route is available.
