The NYPD Scholarship supports active members of the New York City Police Department who pursue an MPA or Executive MPA at NYU Wagner in New York City. NYU Wagner offers the award with the New York City Police Foundation, whose work includes professional-development scholarships for NYPD personnel.
Applicants complete NYU Wagner’s admissions process and must also contact the NYPD Office of Professional Development about its separate scholarship process. The scholarship page does not publish an internal NYPD deadline.
Benefits & funding
- Up to two recipients receive half-tuition scholarship awards.
- NYU Wagner waives the application fee for NYPD applicants, regardless of their intended entry semester.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be active members of the New York City Police Department.
- Applicants must seek admission to NYU Wagner’s Master of Public Administration or Executive Master of Public Administration.
- Graduate applicants must hold a four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited US institution or an equivalent foreign degree before enrollment.
- Executive MPA applicants must also meet that program’s requirement of at least seven years of full-time professional experience; the MPA route has no stated minimum.

Application process
- 1Contact the NYPD Office of Professional Development for its scholarship instructions and any internal deadline.
- 2Create an account and submit the online NYU Wagner application for the MPA or Executive MPA.
- 3Select New York Police Department in the Wagner Community section of the application to request the affiliation-based fee waiver.
- 4Do not pay the application fee while the waiver request is under review because paid fees cannot be refunded.
- 5If admitted, check the scholarship notification issued within 24–48 hours after the admissions decision.
