The Next Generation Foresight Practitioners (NGFP) Fellowship is run by the School of International Futures (SOIF). It is a one-year journey of learning, mentorship and community for emerging practitioners who use futures and foresight in collaborative ways for social and environmental good. Around 25 fellows are selected each year from anywhere in the world, with particular encouragement for people from and living in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the Caribbean, Latin America, the Pacific Islands and the Balkans. Fellows pursue their own future-focused project, are matched with an expert foresight practitioner, take a virtual foresight course, and join a global network of past and present fellows. The 2027 cohort is the current cycle, with applications open from 20 April 2026 to 26 June 2026.

Benefits & funding

  • USD 1,000 kick-start grant per individual or team to develop the project (one grant per group).
  • The chance to compete for a USD 10,000 prize at the end of the year for project progress.
  • A project partner — usually an expert foresight practitioner — who meets the fellow regularly.
  • An 8-week virtual introductory foresight course with live instruction.
  • Membership of the NGFP network, online community, thematic and regional hubs, learning events, and a bi-weekly newsletter of grants and opportunities.
  • Free to apply; note that no travel stipend or living allowance is provided.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants from anywhere in the world; the listed regions (Asia, Africa, MENA, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Pacific Islands, the Balkans) are an encouragement, not a requirement.
  • Aged 18–35, or older than 35 with less than one year of experience using foresight.
  • Early in your futures/foresight journey; no prior foresight experience and no specific degree are required — if your project relates to the future you may be eligible.
  • The programme is conducted in English; you need not be fluent but must be able to communicate comprehensibly (applications are not judged on language proficiency).
  • Teams of up to five are allowed with one lead applicant; reserved spots include two fellows under 25 each year and places for the Balkans and MENA regions.
