The National Taiwan Library Fellowship for International Visiting Scholars invites experts and scholars from foreign universities and research institutes to conduct academic research at the National Taiwan Library in New Taipei City. Run annually by the Library, it supports research on Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies for a period of 3 to 6 months, providing a monthly grant and round-trip airfare. It is designed to strengthen academic exchange between the Library and foreign institutions.
Benefits & funding
- Monthly research grant: NTD 60,000 for awardees holding a doctoral degree; NTD 40,000 for those without.
- Round-trip economy-class airfare, reimbursed at actual cost on the most direct route: up to NTD 35,000 from Northeast and Southeast Asia, up to NTD 60,000 from other regions.
- Research period of 3 to 6 months, to be completed within the same calendar year (it cannot span years or be deferred).
Eligibility
- Faculty at foreign universities (professor, associate/assistant professor, lecturer, or postdoctoral researcher), or doctoral candidates / Ph.D. students, or library personnel and researchers of equivalent rank at related academic institutions; or applicants recommended by institutions holding an MOU with the Library.
- Research topic must fall within Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies.
- Applicants currently engaged in research, teaching, or study in Taiwan are not eligible.
- No nationality, age, or work-experience requirement is stated.
Application process
- 1Prepare a CV (with a list of publications), a research proposal (generally up to three pages, in Chinese or English), and arrange one recommendation letter.
- 2Submit the application online before the deadline; paper applications are not accepted.
- 3Have the referee email the recommendation letter as a PDF to the Library.
- 4Await the results announcement; selected scholars register in the stated window before beginning research.
