Eligibility

• Non-Chinese citizen, physically and mentally healthy, confirmed by a medical examination
• Under 45 years old
• Bachelor’s degree for master’s applicants; master’s degree for doctoral applicants
• At least three years of work experience, usually as a public official at division level or above, a university teacher or researcher, or a senior manager
• Strong academic record; some embassy calls set a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale or 4.0 on a 5.0 scale
• English strong enough for degree study, because every programme is taught in English; Chinese language (HSK level 3) counts as an advantage in some rounds and is not a requirement
• Not currently studying in China and not holding another Chinese Government scholarship; anyone who held one within the past three years waits until three full years of work at home have passed
• Applications are accepted only in countries where the Chinese Embassy’s Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office opens a call that year, and places are allocated country by country

Application process

   Check the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office of the Chinese Embassy in your country for the current call and its local deadline, which is set nationally.

   Choose a track: one project only in the University Program, or up to three university and major preferences in the CSC Program.

   For the CSC track, register at studyinchina.csc.edu.cn, select programme category Type A with agency number 00010, and complete each chosen university’s own application.

   Prepare the file: application forms, transcripts, authenticated degree certificates, two recommendation letters, a study plan of at least 1,000 words, the foreigner physical examination form, a passport copy, a CV and a police clearance certificate.

   Submit the file to the embassy office or the national nominating body before the local deadline.

   Attend the embassy interview if shortlisted.

   Wait for university admission and Ministry of Commerce approval; the 2026 round announced results in July and August.
