The Mo Ibrahim Scholarship is a Blavatnik School of Government award for outstanding current or future Sudanese leaders studying at the School in Oxford. It sits on the School-managed funding list for the one-year Master of Public Policy (MPP).

The School’s scholarship page says the award can also support the MSc and the Executive Public Leaders Programme. Recipients carry the title Mo Ibrahim Scholar.

The School welcomed its first Mo Ibrahim Scholar, from Sudan, into the MPP class of 2022. The award remains on the current MPP funding list.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold an offer for a Blavatnik School programme. The MPP is the main route; the scholarship page also names the MSc and the Executive Public Leaders Programme.
  • Applicants must be ordinarily resident in Sudan or South Sudan. The page sets a residence test and states no separate citizenship rule.
  • MPP admission looks for a strong academic record, commitment to public service, leadership and impact, and English proficiency.
  • Most successful MPP candidates have at least two years of professional experience. This is a typical profile, not a stated minimum.

Application process

    Apply to the MPP by the 2 December deadline with a personal statement, a CV of up to two pages, a reflective policy essay, a 400-word public service essay, transcripts and three references.

    Wait for an admissions decision. The School aims to assess all files by March and notify applicants after that.

    After an offer, complete the Blavatnik School of Government Scholarship Questionnaire. It goes to every offer holder and is usually due within a week of the offer.

    Attend a scholarship interview if invited. The first Mo Ibrahim Scholar was interviewed before selection.

    Wait for the funding decision. The School notes its Scholarships Committee may not reach some decisions until late June.
