The ICP Connect scholarship funds a two-year, 120-ECTS Master of Transportation Sciences track in Traffic Safety at Hasselt University. The curriculum combines human behaviour, infrastructure, policy, research, an internship, and a thesis, with a focus on road safety in low- and middle-income settings.
VLIR-UOS funds 10 scholarships each year. Most teaching takes place in Hasselt, Belgium, with limited activities at Diepenbeek; the third-semester internship is completed in the student’s home country.

- It also covers travel, insurance, and livelihood costs, including board and lodging.
- Funding is available only for the complete programme; partial scholarships are not offered.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be nationals and residents of eligible countries at the time of application; nationality and residence may be in different eligible countries.
- Eligible countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Palestine, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
- Applicants must be no older than 35 on 1 January 2026.
- Applicants need an academic bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as behavioural, political, social, mathematical, statistical, economic, planning, geography, architecture, or engineering fields; a Bachelor of Technology or Higher National Diploma is insufficient.
- The programme expects at least a distinction and accepts Cambridge C1 Advanced, IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 79, or Duolingo 120, subject to the published exemptions.
- Applicants may submit only one ICP Connect scholarship application per year and must not previously have received a Belgian-government study scholarship or enrolled at a Belgian higher-education institution before 1 January 2026.
