Malmö Residency invites people from anywhere in the world to spend a month in Malmö, Sweden, with the time, space and community support to start, continue or finish an idea, project or exploration. It is run collectively by Malmö’s business community together with the City of Malmö, Malmö University and Malmö Generate District, and coordinated through the local innovation hub Media Evolution. The 2026 cohort of six residents runs across September and October, built around a mandatory shared period from 9–20 September. Rather than a studio-only art residency, it is a citywide, cross-disciplinary programme that plugs residents into local startups, universities, cultural institutions and industry testbeds.

Eligibility

  • Open to applicants from anywhere in the world (past cohorts drew from 74–88 countries)
  • No stated restriction on nationality, age, degree or profession
  • Applicants must be able to commit to the full residency, including the mandatory 9–20 September window
  • Special interest (a preference, not a requirement) in Green Transition, AI and emerging technologies, food innovation, cultural and creative industries, and wise/digital cities
  • Applicants who need a visa for Sweden are responsible for arranging it themselves; the organisers do not assist with immigration
