The Macao Brain Bee is the Macao regional selection round for the International Brain Bee. The Dr. Stanley Ho Medical Development Foundation organizes it with support from Pui Ching Middle School.
Schools first run an internal written selection, then each school sends one top student to an in-person short-answer final in Macao. The overall champion earns the right to represent Macao at the IBB World Championship, subject to the permanent-resident rule for that international place.
Benefits & funding
- Participation is free.
- Each school may name up to 10 merit-award students who score at least 30 points; each receives MOP 300 and a certificate.
- Final prizes are MOP 6,000 for first, MOP 4,000 for second, MOP 3,000 for third, and MOP 500 for every other student who completes the final; all finalists receive certificates.
- The champion represents Macao at the 2026 IBB World Championship; if the Macao representative finishes in the world top five, the Foundation adds MOP 10,000, while IBB covers international travel and accommodation for the following-year IBB NextGen invitation.
Eligibility
- Applicants must attend grades 9–12, equivalent to junior secondary 3 through senior secondary 3, at a registered full-time secondary school in Macao.
- No nationality, gender, work-experience, or stated age requirement is published for the Macao selection.
- A finalist may win the local prizes regardless of permanent-resident status, but only a Macao permanent resident may take the Macao place at the World Championship.
