The Lund University Global Scholarship is the university’s own academic-excellence award for students who have to pay tuition fees in Sweden — citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland. It applies to Master’s programmes at Lund, and in a few cases to Bachelor’s programmes in Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics and Physical Geography. A grant reduces the tuition fee by a percentage set by the programme’s or faculty’s budget, from a share of the fee up to the full amount.
Lund states that about SEK 26 million is distributed through the scholarship each year, and its published 2026 key facts record 110 Global Scholarships awarded. Selection is on academic merit alone; financial need is not considered.

Eligibility
- Citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland, and therefore required to pay tuition fees at a Swedish university.
- Applying to a Master’s programme at Lund University, or to one of four Bachelor’s programmes: Development Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Geography.
- The Lund University programme must be the applicant’s first choice at universityadmissions.se.
- The applicant must meet the admission requirements of the chosen programme.
- The applicant must be able to finance living costs in Sweden independently, as required by the Swedish Migration Agency.
- One Global Scholarship application per applicant per round.
- Merit-based selection only; financial need plays no part.

Application process
- 1Apply to the degree programme through the national admissions website universityadmissions.se within the round (mid-October to 15 January for programmes starting in the autumn semester), with the Lund University programme as first choice, and pay the application fee.
- 2When the scholarship round opens in early February, apply through Lund University’s separate scholarship portal, linked from the scholarship page.
- 3Upload a Scholarship Motivation Letter of at most 600 words explaining academic achievements and reasons for applying to Lund University. This is a separate document from any statement of purpose required by the programme application.
- 4Wait for the results: scholarship decisions are sent shortly after admission results, stating the awarded amount and the deadline to accept.
- 5Accept the award within the stated time. The granted percentage is then deducted from the tuition invoice.
