The LPDP-Australia Awards Scholarships are funded jointly by Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), the education endowment agency under Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance, and the Australian Government through Australia Awards in Indonesia. The scheme sends Indonesian citizens to Australia for a Master’s degree in seven sectors tied to Indonesia’s national development agenda. Both governments announced the partnership at the Annual Leaders’ Meeting in Sydney in July 2023.
Applicants do not need a university offer when they apply; they nominate three course preferences from a list of designated Australian universities, and Australia Awards handles the university applications after selection. Candidates are assessed on academic competence, professional and leadership qualities, and their potential to address development challenges in Indonesia, and scholars commit to returning home after graduating.

Eligibility
- Indonesian citizens only; civil servants (CPNS/PNS) may apply, serving military and police personnel may not
- A completed Diploma 4 or Bachelor’s (S1) degree; applicants who already hold a Master’s degree may not apply for this Master’s scholarship
- Minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale from the qualifying degree
- Aged no more than 42 on 31 December of the application year
- English proficiency: IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 84 with at least 21 in every sub-test, or PTE Academic 58 with no communicative skill score below 50; the certificate should ideally be issued within one year of the closing date
- The proposed course must sit in one of the priority fields: food security, energy, digitalisation (AI and semiconductors), health, downstreaming and industrialisation, maritime, or advanced materials and manufacturing
- No admission offer is required at application; three course preferences are nominated by CRICOS code from the designated university list
- Applicants from targeted provinces, women from disadvantaged backgrounds, and people with disability are encouraged to apply

Application process
- 1Register on the LPDP integrated online scholarship system during the annual application window.
- 2Complete the personal profile, the commitment essay and the post-study contribution plan, and nominate three course preferences by CRICOS code.
- 3Upload supporting documents: national identity card (KTP), Bachelor’s or D4 certificate (or a certificate of completion), academic transcript, English test certificate, an online recommendation letter, and employer approval for civil servants.
- 4Pass administrative screening; results are published and an objection window follows.
- 5Shortlisted candidates sit the substance selection stages, ending with an interview on academic competence, development contribution, and professional and personal leadership.
- 6Successful candidates complete pre-departure training in Bali, take up their place at an Australian university with support from Australia Awards, and obtain a student visa.
