The Loom Nam Khong Pijai Scholarships, also called the GMS Scholarships, are Royal Thai Government awards for master’s study at the Asian Institute of Technology. AIT is a not-for-profit international postgraduate institute founded in 1959, on a campus in Pathum Thani just north of Bangkok, teaching in English across engineering, environment and management.
The scheme is granted in honour of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and supports human resources development in the six Greater Mekong Subregion countries: Cambodia, southern China (Yunnan and Guangxi provinces), Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand.
A scholarship covers one 22-month master’s degree in one of four thematic areas: infrastructure development, energy technology, oil, gas and natural resources development, and environmental engineering and management. Recipients live on AIT’s residential campus. AIT describes its Royal Thai Government scholarships as non-binding.

Eligibility
- Open to nationals of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, and to applicants from southern China — the scheme names the provinces of Yunnan and Guangxi only.
- An outstanding education record in a four-year undergraduate program from an accredited institution in a related field.
- A bachelor’s GPA of 3.5 or the equivalent; AIT’s general master’s admission floor is 2.75, so the scholarship bar sits well above it.
- English proficiency as set by the AIT Language Center: IELTS 6.0 in both the overall and writing bands, or AIT EET 6 or above. AIT states that full scholarship consideration needs an official score no more than two years old.
- The chosen AIT master’s program must sit inside one of the four thematic areas.
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, normally from a four-year program, from an institution AIT accepts.

- 3Upload academic records and an official English test result; AIT does not require recommendation letters from master’s applicants.

- 5Pay the non-refundable processing fee of 800 baht or US$25, which AIT requires before it processes an application.
- 6Submit by 31 March for the August intake. There is no separate scholarship form — every submitted application is considered automatically for the scholarships it is eligible for and whose deadline has not passed.
- 7Wait for the award announcement, then complete admission and visa steps for the August start.
