The MAEC-AECID Lectureships place early-career Spanish specialists in foreign universities to teach Spanish as a foreign language. Lecturers also strengthen Hispanic language and culture programs and support links between their host institution and Spanish universities.

The 2026/27 call allowed up to 149 beneficiaries, with one post at each listed destination. Applications for new and vacant posts are closed; that route ran from 13 to 30 January 2026.

Benefits & funding

  • A monthly allowance set separately for each country and host university.
  • A destination-based supplementary payment for taking up the post in person.
  • Reimbursement of up to €250 for Spanish-teaching materials and up to €250 for eligible Spanish-as-a-foreign-language training.
  • Travel grants may cover attendance at official lecturers’ meetings, but there is no individual outbound or return travel grant; recipients arrange the required insurance themselves.

Eligibility

  • Applicants for a new or vacant post must be Spanish citizens and no older than 37 on the first day of the month in which the lectureship begins.
  • Applicants must have completed and be able to document an eligible Licenciatura or Grado during the application window; the call also provides an official university master’s route in Spanish as a foreign language for specified degree backgrounds.
  • There is no stated minimum language level, but documented ability in the destination or working language is assessed.
  • Spanish-teaching experience is assessed as merit rather than stated as a minimum-experience gate.
  • Each applicant may select only one post, with an optional indication that they would accept another destination.
