The Learning Sciences Exchange (LSX) Fellowship, run by New America since 2018, brings mid-career experts from usually separate sectors into teams that tackle education problems.
Its latest cohort (2024–25, the fourth) had seven part-time fellows working with Pennsylvania schools on family engagement, meeting monthly online and in person in Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. No later call has been posted.
Benefits & funding
- $1,500 stipend per fellow in 2024–25; travel to in-person meetings covered.
- Training in learning-science concepts and communicating research to wide audiences.
- One year, part-time: fellows keep their jobs; duties are a team-built prototype tested in partner schools, plus survey input.
Eligibility
- 2024–25 call: applicants had to be in the United States (continental), Mexico or Canada, ideally within three time zones of Washington, DC.
- Open sectors: learning-science research, social-impact entrepreneurship, education journalism, entertainment and game development; education-leadership fellows were chosen separately.
- Aimed at mid-career professionals; no age limit, and less experienced applicants were also invited.
- English fluency required; all meetings and work are in English.
- Family-school partnership experience encouraged, not required.
