Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Scholarship Scheme for Mongolia — Bachelor's Scholarship

The Kushok Bakula Rinpoche Scholarship Scheme is the Indian government’s scholarship reserved for nationals of Mongolia. It is run by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under scheme code G0183 and was formerly called the Aid to Mongolia Scholarship Scheme.

Scholars study in India on a full award covering fees, living costs and travel. Courses run from diploma to doctoral level and span engineering, information technology, business administration, commerce, science, humanities, languages, Buddhist studies, and art and culture. Medicine, law and casual research are outside the scheme.

Mongolia’s allocation is 20 slots a year, split 10 undergraduate, 7 postgraduate and 3 research places. The Embassy of India in Ulaanbaatar handles the country’s selection, and the Embassy notes that ten slots have also been offered for special Buddhist studies courses in Varanasi and at the Leh institute since 2020–21. Everyone applies through ICCR’s A2A portal in one annual window.

Benefits & funding

Tuition and the other compulsory university charges are paid by ICCR.
A monthly living stipend runs for the full length of the course; three months of stipend are released in advance on arrival in India.
House rent allowance is part of the package. Hostel accommodation is mandatory where the university provides it.
Two-way economy class airfare between Mongolia and India, plus visa processing.
Medical treatment follows Central Government Health Scheme rules, and reimbursement stays within those norms even at a private hospital.
Scholars must buy their own medical insurance with cover of at least INR 500,000 a year.
Rate tables for the stipend and allowances are issued separately by ICCR and are not stated on the scheme page or the Embassy notification.

Eligibility

Open to nationals of Mongolia.
Age 18 to 35 for diploma, bachelor’s and master’s courses, and up to 40 for doctoral candidates.
A good academic record with a subject background relevant to the course applied for.
Applicants for science and engineering courses must have studied mathematics, physics and chemistry at higher secondary level.
Proficient English. A 500-word essay in English is part of the application; TOEFL or IELTS scores are welcome but not required.
A medical fitness certificate from a recognised hospital and a medical insurance policy of at least INR 500,000 a year.
Doctoral applicants submit a research synopsis with the application.
Medicine, law and casual research courses are not funded, and awards are tenable only at state and central universities, not at private or deemed universities.

Application process

Register on ICCR’s A2A scholarship portal once the annual window opens.

Complete the online application and name the course applied for.

List up to five universities or institutes in order of preference.

Upload the 500-word English essay, academic records, the medical fitness certificate, the insurance policy, and a research synopsis for doctoral applicants.

Submit before the last date announced by the Embassy of India in Ulaanbaatar for the cycle.

Universities confirm admission on the portal; the Embassy then selects within Mongolia’s allocated slots.

Complete visa formalities and join the university within one month of admission confirmation.
