The Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies brings experienced scholars to the University of Notre Dame to pursue research connected to its peace research initiatives. The 2026–27 cycle is closed, and applications for 2027–28 are scheduled to open on September 1, 2026.
Fellows live in residence at the Institute for one semester or a full academic year and participate in its intellectual community. The most recent cycle invited work on intersecting identity and peacebuilding, international mediation, peace accords, and links among sustainability, climate change, and peace, with a preference for policy- or practice-relevant research.

Eligibility
- Applicants must complete a doctoral or equivalent degree before the fellowship begins; current Ph.D. candidates may apply only if they finish the degree before the start date.
- Applicants need substantial research experience and a project connected to Kroc Institute research initiatives.
- Former Kroc Visiting Research Fellows must wait seven years before applying again.
- The Institute describes the fellowship as available to scholars from around the world and publishes no nationality or prior-residency restriction.

Application process

- 2Prepare a cover letter of no more than two pages stating the requested one- or two-semester duration and the relevant research field.
- 3Prepare a research proposal of no more than 10 double-spaced pages, including the bibliography, covering sources, data, methodology, analysis, a timetable, and expected products.
