The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, a program of the Kimmel Foundation, awards up to 78 juried residencies a year in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
Writers, composers, visual and interdisciplinary artists, established or emerging and from any country, spend 2–8 self-directed weeks living and working on site. A blind, discipline-specific jury chooses from anonymous work samples and statements; two deadlines a year each fill a six-month session.
Benefits & funding
- Housing with a private bedroom and bathroom, plus a private studio; writers and visual artists usually share an apartment with one other resident
- A US$175 weekly stipend
- Taxi between Omaha or Lincoln and Nebraska City on arrival and departure, paid by the Kimmel Foundation
- All other travel costs are the resident’s own
- 2–8 weeks; the first-choice length is not guaranteed
Eligibility
- Writers, composers, visual and interdisciplinary artists, established or emerging; no degree, age or experience requirement is stated
- Open to applicants from any country; former international residents report needing a tourist visa
- Applications must be in English, and conversational English is required
- Former residents may hold at most two residencies in a lifetime and reapply one year after their original application (Nebraska artists) or two years (others)
- Some residencies are set aside for recent graduates (within two years of the deadline) and for Nebraska artists; the application is the same
- No pets or overnight guests

Application process
- 1Apply through the online SlideRoom portal; mailed or emailed applications are not considered.
- 2Submit anonymous work samples, an anonymous Statement of Submitted Works and an anonymous Statement of Intent, plus a CV-based professional history and two professional references.
- 3Pay the US$35 fee, which is non-refundable and never waived.
- 4Deadlines: 1 March (July–December session) and 1 September (January–June of the next year); results by 1 May and 1 November.
