The John Thompson Scholarship is awarded by DCU Business School at Dublin City University to one incoming student each year on its full-time MSc in Digital Marketing in Dublin, Ireland. Established in 2008 in memory of newspaper executive John Thompson, it aims to foster links between digital marketing and online journalism. The award covers the full tuition fees of the 12-month, on-campus master’s, and is open to both EU and non-EU applicants who have applied to the programme.
Benefits & funding
- Full tuition fees for the MSc in Digital Marketing (one award each year). Programme tuition is €12,100 for EU students and €23,000 for non-EU students (2026 entry).
- Covers tuition only — living costs, travel and accommodation are not included.
- A 12-month, full-time, on-campus place at DCU Business School in Dublin.
Eligibility
- Open to EU and non-EU applicants (no nationality restriction).
- Must have applied to the full-time MSc in Digital Marketing at DCU Business School.
- MSc entry standard: a 2.1 honours degree in a business discipline, or in a relevant non-business discipline (e.g. journalism, communications, media studies), or a professional qualification with 5+ years of relevant marketing experience.
- Non-native English speakers must meet DCU’s English language requirements.
- Holders of another DCU Business School scholarship are not eligible to also hold this one.
Application process
- 1Apply to the full-time MSc in Digital Marketing at DCU Business School (note the programme’s own admission deadlines: 1 July 2026 for non-EU applicants, 31 July 2026 for EU applicants).
- 2On receiving an offer, email businessscholarships@dcu.ie with your CV, a statement of motivation and suitability for the scholarship (maximum 250 words), and an academic transcript or proof of final degree award.
