The ISLAA Latin American Fellowship supports research on modern and contemporary Latin American art using the Institute for Studies on Latin American Art collections. Fellows conduct a 2–4 week residency at the ISLAA Research Center in New York City during the 2026–2027 academic year.
The inaugural call offered Senior Scholar, Postdoctoral Scholar, and Doctoral Scholar routes. Projects should engage a selected ISLAA archival collection and contribute to scholarly work such as a dissertation, article, book, or conference presentation.

- Fellows receive in-person access to ISLAA archival holdings, more than 1,000 artist files, and support from the Library & Archives Team.
- Fellows arrange their own travel; ISLAA does not issue travel permits or sponsor visa applications.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have permanent residence in Latin America; the call states no nationality restriction.
- Senior Scholar applicants need more than 10 years of field experience and a strong peer-reviewed publication record.
- Postdoctoral applicants must have received a PhD within the previous two years and provide a diploma or official certification.
- Doctoral applicants must be enrolled in a doctoral program at a Latin American university.
- Every fellow must be physically present at ISLAA in New York City for the full 2–4 week residency.
- Applicants must be able to read the language or languages relevant to their selected archival materials.
