iScholar is a competitive summer research program run by the Department of Chemistry at the University of Rochester (New York, USA). It brings undergraduate and master’s students who are currently studying outside the United States to Rochester for roughly two months of hands-on laboratory research. The program is aimed at students who intend to apply to PhD programs in chemistry in the US, giving them first-class research experience and mentorship before they apply. Participants work directly in a faculty research group and are supported with a stipend, housing, and health insurance.

Eligibility

  • Currently studying at an institution outside the United States
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or master’s program in chemistry or a related field (physics, biology, engineering, computer science)
  • Not already enrolled in or pursuing a PhD program
  • Planning to pursue a PhD in chemistry in the United States
  • Preference is given to students planning to start a PhD in calendar year 2027
  • Open to all nationalities; US citizens and permanent residents may apply if they are enrolled at a non-US institution
