The UNFCCC Internship Programme places enrolled students in practical assignments with the UN Climate Change secretariat. Interns support the secretariat’s work while gaining experience of the United Nations and professional climate-policy work.
Vacancies are advertised individually across different teams. The current Markets and Non-markets Support Unit assignment focuses on learning, capacity-building and outreach materials for Article 6.8 of the Paris Agreement.
Benefits & funding
- The normal internship lasts two months; the current assignment may be extended to a maximum of six months.
- The current assignment is full-time at 40 hours per week and is based at the UNFCCC premises in Bonn.
- UNFCCC does not pay interns; travel, visas, accommodation, living costs and medical insurance are the intern’s or sponsoring institution’s responsibility.
- A permit constraint may require part of the current assignment to be completed remotely.
Eligibility
- Be enrolled, both when applying and throughout the internship, in the final year of a bachelor’s degree or in a graduate programme at a recognized university.
- Study a field related to UNFCCC work; the current vacancy names sustainable development, environmental or climate policy, international relations, or a related field.
- Be fluent in English.
- Do not be the spouse, parent, sibling or child of a UNFCCC secretariat staff member.
- Provide evidence of adequate medical insurance coverage.
