The British Museum’s International Training Programme (ITP) brings museum and heritage professionals from around the world to London for six weeks each summer.
Fellows join group sessions and workshops covering all areas of museum work, spend time in a relevant Museum department and at a UK partner museum, then stay on in the global ITP network. It is a training course, not a research placement.
Benefits & funding
- The Museum arranges and pays airfare, travel within the UK, accommodation, subsistence and travel/personal insurance.
- You or your employer arrange the UK visa; the Museum refunds its cost on receipt.
- Duties: stay in the group accommodation for all six weeks (no family or guests), complete two evaluation forms, and send a written report in English within 4 weeks of returning home.
Eligibility
- Museum and heritage professionals in any role (curators, conservators, managers, educators; freelancers too), dedicated to a career in the sector.
- Early or mid-career, or in a position of influence to develop colleagues back home.
- Good spoken and written English; every session is in English.
- Available for the entire six weeks, including evening and weekend sessions.
- No nationality bar; participants come mainly from institutions in countries that seek support in building their museum sectors.
- Professionals in Egypt: places will be offered later through the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, not this call.
