Official Page

The Center for Language Education and Cooperation established this scholarship to prepare Chinese-language teachers, with Shanghai Jiao Tong University serving as the host institution. SJTU offers bachelor’s, master’s, one-academic-year, and one-semester routes in Shanghai.

The September 2026 routes have closed. The remaining live route is the five-month Chinese Language and Literature one-semester program beginning in March 2027.

Benefits & funding

  • The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation support, a monthly living allowance, and comprehensive medical insurance.
  • Bachelor’s, one-semester, and one-academic-year recipients receive CNY 1,100 per month for accommodation and CNY 2,500 per month for living costs; MTCSOL recipients receive CNY 1,320 and CNY 3,000 respectively.
  • Medical insurance is CNY 400 for the one-semester route and CNY 800 per year for the bachelor’s, one-academic-year, and MTCSOL routes.
  • Degree recipients must pass an annual review; excellent performance retains the full award, good performance leads to tuition, accommodation, and insurance only, and other outcomes suspend the scholarship.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, aged 16–35 on September 1, 2026, in good physical and mental health, in good academic and behavioral standing, free of a criminal record, and interested in Chinese-language education or related work.
  • In-service Chinese teachers may be up to 45; bachelor’s applicants are generally expected to be under 25.
  • The live March 2027 one-semester Chinese Language and Literature route requires HSK Level 3 with at least 180 points and an HSKK score; applicants who received a similar scholarship within the previous three years are generally not admitted to one-semester or one-year routes.
  • The MTCSOL route requires a bachelor’s degree, HSK Level 6 with at least 180 points, and HSKK Advanced with at least 60 points; the bachelor’s route requires high school completion, HSK Level 5 with at least 200 points, and HSKK Intermediate with at least 60 points.
  • The one-academic-year route requires HSK Level 3 with at least 210 points, with an HSKK score preferred.
