The IGF 2026 Fellowship Programme places selected professionals with the United Nations Internet Governance Forum Secretariat in Geneva. Fellows support research, programme preparation, capacity development and coordination connected with Internet governance and the 2026 annual meeting.

The programme is intended to build practical multistakeholder and policy experience that fellows can apply in their home communities. The 2026 call is closed.

Benefits & funding

  • The programme is financed through the IGF Trust Fund and administered by UN DESA.
  • UN DESA handles fellowship administration, including medical insurance.
  • The host provides office space, computer access and an email address.
  • The official call does not publish a stipend amount or a specific travel entitlement.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold a university degree in ICT or international affairs with a strong emphasis on technology or telecommunications policy.
  • Applicants must have at least two years of relevant professional experience in Internet-governance processes.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required; working knowledge of French is desirable.
  • Applicants need strong writing, research, data-analysis, planning, communication and basic website-management skills.
  • The 2026 call invited candidates from all stakeholder and regional groups. The programme focuses on professionals from developing countries, least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and transitional economies, and eligible regions rotate; the call publishes no fixed nationality or residency list.
  • Fellows must work full time on the programme and may not take other work, fellowships or non-IGF Secretariat meeting activities during the placement.
