The IEEE ClimateChain Global Hackathon is an online project-building competition organized by IEEE Blockchain Türkiye Group with IEEE and partner organizations. Participants develop prototypes for carbon markets, renewable energy, sustainable supply chains, or climate data and environmental monitoring. The program combines blockchain, AI, IoT, data platforms, and climate science to support practical climate action.
Teams work remotely from October 5 to 25, 2026, with learning and training sessions scheduled beforehand. The official Devpost overview and detailed rules disagree on the eligible audience, so applicants should review the live registration requirements before entering.
Benefits & funding
- The cash-prize pool totals US$3,000: US$1,500 for first place, US$1,000 for second place, and US$500 for third place.
- The page lists IEEE Certificates of Merit for the top three teams and participation certificates for eligible participants.
- Eligible winners who are IEEE members may be nominated for IEEE Senior Member elevation.
- Finalists may showcase their work to industry experts, climate organizations, and other global stakeholders.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be above the legal age of majority in their country of residence; the official site does not provide one universal minimum age.
- The Devpost overview labels participation as students only and excludes companies and professional organizations, while the detailed rules also list faculty, independent developers, startups, environmental professionals, and climate scientists. Applicants should confirm which rule controls before registering.
- International participation is permitted, but the overview states that specific countries/territories are excluded and the rules mention country restrictions; neither page names them, so check your country on the Devpost registration page.
- Individuals may enter alone, or teams may have two to five members; each person may join only one team.
- Organizers, judges, and their immediate families cannot compete; previous grand-prize winners may compete only for smaller awards.
