The Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy (ICDE), housed at The New School in New York and run alongside the Platform Cooperativism Consortium (PCC), appoints an annual global cohort of research fellows. Fellows study how cooperatives, unions, and solidarity-economy organizations engage with digital systems — platforms, AI, data regimes, and algorithmic management. The fellowship is non-residential: fellows remain at their home institutions and take part in ICDE programming remotely across the year, with one required in-person appearance at the PCC Conference. The 2026–27 cohort has eleven fellows representing ten countries across four continents, working across democratic governance, AI policy, solidarity finance, platform labor, and food systems. The 2026–27 call explicitly encouraged applications from scholars based in the Asia-Pacific region.

Eligibility

  • PhD candidates and post-docs.
  • Junior and early-career faculty.
  • Applicants with equivalent research experience and a demonstrated record of scholarly or applied research.
  • Open worldwide — no nationality or residency restriction. The 2026–27 call encouraged Asia-Pacific-based scholars, as a preference rather than a requirement.
  • Collaborative or paired applications are welcome.
  • Fellows must be able to attend and present at the PCC Conference in person.

    Write a 1–2 page research proposal covering research question, empirical focus, methods, timeline, and relevance to the cooperative digital economy.
