ICCROM Fellowships enable senior cultural heritage professionals to pursue independent research using ICCROM’s documentation, library and archives. The programme is run by ICCROM, an intergovernmental organization serving its Member States.

Fellowships normally last three to six months at ICCROM headquarters in Rome, with a partially online arrangement possible when justified. Projects may address any topic related to heritage conservation and ICCROM’s mission, with stated 2026–2027 preferences for stronger risk-management approaches and integration of heritage into wider policy agendas.

Benefits & funding

  • ICCROM provides office space, a computer workstation, internet access, stationery and full access to its documentation, library and archives services.
  • ICCROM does not provide financial support; Fellows arrange and pay for travel, accommodation and personal insurance.
  • ICCROM can assist with documents needed to enter and temporarily reside in Italy and, when possible, help identify reasonable accommodation.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be researchers, teachers or practitioners specializing in a field related to cultural heritage.
  • Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree and have at least ten years of professional activity in the field.
  • Applicants must either be nationals of an ICCROM Member State or work in an organization located in one.
  • Applicants need good knowledge of English or French, although the research itself may be conducted in any language.
  • Valid major global medical and accident insurance is compulsory for the full fellowship period.
