HGHI Burke Global Health Fellowship — Fellowship

The HGHI Burke Global Health Fellowship supports junior Harvard faculty pursuing global health research or curriculum development. Harvard Global Health Institute administers the 12-month program with support from the Burke Fund.

Research awardees develop foundational or exploratory work, while curriculum awardees create innovative teaching, particularly for undergraduates. Applications are currently closed, and Harvard has not announced the next cycle’s dates.

Benefits & funding

Research Award: $90,000 for foundational research or exploratory work on questions that traditional funding seldom supports.
Curriculum Development Award: $30,000 for innovative course development and teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level.
Professional development: up to $3,000 once for open-access publishing and up to $5,000 for a research conference or networking event.
Fellowship duration: 12 months.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a junior faculty appointment at Harvard University as an Instructor or Assistant Professor.
The proposed work must fall within global health.
Faculty outside medicine and life sciences are strongly encouraged to apply; this is a preference, not an additional eligibility gate.
The published criteria do not state separate nationality, residency, degree, experience, gender, or age requirements.

Prepare a CV, project title, and a research proposal of no more than four pages excluding references, covering the abstract, aims, background, design and methods, innovation or interdisciplinarity, and career significance.
