The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a full-time placement for recent college and graduate-school alumni. Fellows spend six to nine months with one of 26 participating nonprofit public-interest organizations in Washington, DC.
They contribute to peace and security work through research, writing, organizing, and related projects under host-organization supervision. The program runs spring and fall cohorts, but its application portal currently has no open call.
Benefits & funding
- Salary of USD 4,497 per month.
- Pre-tax reimbursement of health-insurance premiums or health-care expenses up to USD 400 per month.
- Reimbursement for travel to Washington, DC at the start of the fellowship.
- USD 1,500 for approved professional development, including relevant meetings, conferences, language or policy courses.
- Mentoring from a board member and a former fellow, plus meetings with policy experts and alumni events.
Eligibility
- A bachelor’s degree must be completed by the fellowship start date; recent college and graduate-school alumni are the intended audience.
- U.S. citizens may apply whether they live in the United States or overseas.
- Non-U.S. citizens may apply only if they live in the United States and hold a U.S. work visa for the full fellowship.
- Applicants should show strong academic achievement and a sustained interest in peace and security; public-interest activism or advocacy is preferred, not required.
- The fellowship is full-time and in person in Washington, DC.
- The official eligibility page states no age, gender, or minimum-years-of-experience cutoff.
