The scheme covers eligible Master’s and doctoral programs across HBKU’s colleges, with support differing by degree, field, and student category. The 2026 admissions cycle is closed, and the next graduate application cycle opens on October 1, 2026.
Benefits & funding
- PhD students in STEM, SHAPE fields, and the S.J.D. may receive a 100% tuition waiver.
- STEM MS programs may receive a 75% tuition waiver; SHAPE MS and MA programs and the J.D. may receive a 60% waiver. LL.M. programs, the MS in Economics, and certificate programs have no standard HBKU tuition waiver under the published table.
- Selected international PhD students may receive QAR 9,000 per month for 45 months; selected international Master’s students may receive QAR 7,000 per month for 21 months. Published rates differ for Qatari and local students.
- Stipend recipients serve as research assistants for 10 hours per week. International stipend recipients receive one inbound economy ticket at the start and one outbound economy ticket after graduation.
- Housing and meals are not paid separately and must be covered from the stipend or personal funds.
Eligibility
- Applicants must gain admission to an eligible HBKU graduate program; Master’s applicants generally hold a Bachelor’s degree, while PhD applicants generally hold a Master’s degree, subject to the selected program’s requirements.
- Tuition waivers and stipends are competitive, depend on merit or financial need and available funds, and are not guaranteed with admission.
- Stipends are for full-time graduate students serving as research or teaching assistants. Full-time working professionals and part-time workers exceeding 40% of full-time hours are not eligible for a stipend.
- International, Qatari, and Qatar-resident applicants have published admission routes. No nationality restriction is stated for the graduate scholarship scheme.
- Recipients must maintain good academic standing, and awards are reviewed annually.
