Hambidge Creative Residency Program

The Hambidge Center

Application Deadline

September 15, 2026

Official Page

The Hambidge Center runs a self-directed residency on a 600-acre wooded campus in the North Georgia mountains. Residents receive private combined work-and-living studios and structure their own creative time, without required workshops, critiques, or production outcomes.

The program serves professional practitioners in the arts, culture, culinary arts, writing, performance, craft, and science. The current application window is for the Spring 2027 session, which runs from mid-February through May.

Benefits & funding

  • Each resident receives a private studio with living space, a bathroom, and a full kitchen; WiFi is available in a communal building rather than in the studios.
  • Vegetarian communal dinners are provided Tuesday through Friday; residents cover their other meals, travel, equipment, and supplies.
  • The standard residency fee is $300 per week, and the application fee is $30. Applicants for whom the application fee is a barrier may request a waiver at least four days before the deadline.
  • Merit-based Distinguished Fellowships waive the fees for a two-week residency and provide a $700 stipend. Unless an award says otherwise, these fellowships are for first-time residents.
  • Limited financial aid for accepted residents averages $250 and is capped at $500.
  • Standard stays are two to eight weeks. One-week stays are limited to Arts & Culture Administrator and Culinary applicants, eight-week stays are scheduled only in Spring and Fall, and Summer stays are capped at four weeks.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must treat their creative practice as a professional practice rather than a hobby and demonstrate quality of work and professional promise. Emerging, mid-career, and established practitioners may apply.
  • Eligible disciplines include arts and culture administration, culinary arts, dance and choreography, music and composition, performance, science, craft, visual arts, and writing.
  • Applicants from all countries may apply. A working understanding of English is required; writers working in another language must submit samples in both the original language and English translation.
  • No degree, age, gender, nationality, or residency restriction is stated.
  • Former Hambidge residents must wait two years before returning and must submit a new application with recent work.
  • Collaborators apply individually and identify all collaborators in the residency questions.
