Guidelines for HYI Alumni to Organize a Workshop or Conference

Forum / SummitRemote

Harvard-Yenching Institute

Application Deadline

April 15, 2027

The Harvard-Yenching Institute funds its alumni to organize small academic workshops or conferences at their own universities or institutions in Asia. Each event runs one or two days on a clearly defined topic and should lead to a significant publication.

The gathering brings together about 10–15 scholars from several Asian countries and regions, and 2–3 presenters from outside Asia may be invited. HYI expects a say in the program and participants before the agenda is final.

Benefits & funding

  • Up to US$20,000, pending final budgetary approval.
  • The host university or institution is expected to share costs; the budget must include its pledge of significant support.
  • A small number of host faculty and doctoral students in the field may join as auditors.

Eligibility

  • One or two organizers, each a former HYI visiting scholar or fellow from the regular fellowship program and/or field development training programs.
  • Organizers should be current active faculty at the host university or institution in Asia.
  • Alumni who received this grant in the past three years are normally not eligible.
  • The page sets no nationality, age or degree requirement.
