The Government Analytics Fellowship helps public officials turn the data their own government already holds into evidence for running the administration better. The World Bank runs it with University College London, as part of its Government Analytics Handbook work.
Fellows keep their government jobs. Across six months they join a kick-off and a virtual pre-training session, travel to Washington, D.C. for the Public Institutions Conference and the Government Analytics course, then develop one analytics project for their own organization with mentoring from World Bank and UCL experts.
Forty fellows are selected per cohort, and each organization may nominate at most two people. Projects are presented at the end of the cycle in July.
Benefits & funding
- Two weeks of in-person training in Washington, D.C.: the Public Institutions Conference (28–29 January) and the Government Analytics course (30 January – 6 February).
- Hotel, travel and subsistence for the Washington training paid by the World Bank for participants from ODA-eligible countries.
- Mentoring from World Bank and University College London experts while the fellow develops a government analytics project.
- Online sessions spread across the six months, averaging about one hour per week.
- A place in a cohort of 40 serving government officials, plus the Government Analytics Handbook materials and network.
Eligibility
- Work in a central government organization, including government agencies.
- Hold a mid-level manager or senior analyst position, or the equivalent, with the authority to develop a government analytics project.
- Nominated by your organization; up to two fellows per organization.
- Able to demonstrate prior tertiary-level coursework in statistics or related quantitative methods.
- Proficient in English.
- Available to travel to Washington, D.C. for the in-person weeks (27 January – 6 February in the last cycle).
- Open to all nationalities. Hotel, travel and subsistence are covered only for participants from ODA-eligible countries; everyone else funds the trip themselves.
- Graduate students, faculty members, and staff of private or non-profit organizations are not eligible.

Application process
- 1Prepare a CV of no more than three pages, in English.
- 2Write a 150-word summary of the government analytics project you would develop with what you learn.
- 3Ask your organization for an endorsement letter that nominates you, confirms your position, and describes its support for the project.
- 4Upload all three through the online application form before the late-September deadline (28 September in the last cycle).
- 5Selected fellows join a kick-off in November and a virtual pre-training session in December, then travel to Washington, D.C. in late January.
