Good Hart Artist Residency — Fellowship

Good Hart Artist Residency supports visual artists, writers, and composers with focused working time in Good Hart, Michigan. The primary format is a solitary 10–21-day stay, with selected residents also developing a community event or educational workshop with a local nonprofit partner.

When the organization cannot fully support an onsite stay, it may arrange an offsite version with virtual support. Applications are currently closed, and the next annual call is expected to begin in late November 2026.

Benefits & funding

A private 1,150-square-foot home for 10–21 days; some offsite residencies last two weeks and have different accommodations.
Food and a stocked kitchen are provided.
Residencies from May through October include access to a detached private studio and basic art supplies.
Residents receive a US$500 stipend after successfully completing the stay.
One selected parent artist may receive a US$1,000 grant toward dependent childcare at home.
Residents pay their own travel and visa costs. The most recent application fee was US$35, with hardship waivers available only during the stated request window.

Eligibility

Applicants must be pursuing visual art, writing, or composing as a professional career, including those working toward that goal.
No nationality, residency, degree, age, or gender restriction is published.
Applicants choose one review category: visual artist, writer, or composer.
Collaborators apply separately and must each be selected.
Writers submit English-language samples; category-specific work samples are required from all applicants.

Application process

Choose the visual artist, writer, or composer category and apply through Submittable during the open call.

Submit a résumé or CV, a one-to-two-paragraph statement of intent, a one-to-three-paragraph community-engagement proposal, and contact details for two references.

Add the required category-specific portfolio: 6–9 works for visual artists, specified writing samples for writers, or three digital samples for composers.

Pay the application fee or request a hardship waiver within the published waiver window.

A qualified jury reviews the application; selected residents then coordinate their stay and community program with the residency and a nonprofit partner.
