Glen Arbor Arts Center Artist-in-Residence

FellowshipUSA · Glen Arbor

Glen Arbor Arts Center

Application Deadline

November 5, 2026

The Glen Arbor Arts Center, a nonprofit in Glen Arbor, Michigan, runs this residency, which began in the 1990s and is named for painter Suzanne Wilson. It gives artists two weeks away from daily duties to focus on their own work.

Several artists are hosted each season, one at a time, between May and early October 2027, beside Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Each resident gives one community presentation; there is no teaching.

Benefits & funding

  • Free furnished housing on the Arts Center campus: private bedroom with half bath, shared kitchen and living room, linens provided.
  • A shared seasonal studio at Thoreson Farm, 3.7 miles away, with basic tools, kilns and potter’s wheels.
  • No residency fee; the page lists no stipend, and a car is advised.
  • A local host helps residents settle in.

Eligibility

  • Solo practitioners in creative writing, visual art, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics or music; groups and collaborative teams are not considered.
  • No nationality, residence, age or degree requirement is published.
  • Anyone selected for a residency in the preceding three years is ineligible.
  • The second-floor residence is not accessible; residents must climb stairs unassisted.
  • Selected artists must commit to the full 14 days and present to the community on the second Thursday.
  • Pets are not allowed.
