GIST Scholarships is the financial support package for international students admitted to master’s and doctoral programs at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in Gwangju, South Korea.
It pairs full tuition support with monthly allowances, health insurance support and an arrival flight; some allowances depend on credits and grades. GIST admits international graduate students in spring and fall cycles.
Benefits & funding
- Full tuition (KRW 3,607,000 per semester); new students pay a one-time KRW 680,000 matriculation fee unless it is waived.
- KRW 140,000 (master’s) or KRW 295,000 (doctoral) a month, plus nearly KRW 100,000 for meals, each needing 9+ credits the previous semester.
- A further KRW 120,000 a month with a previous-semester GPA of 3.0/4.5 or higher.
- 60% of National Health Insurance, an annual checkup and one one-way flight to Korea; students pay for campus housing.
Eligibility
- Foreign nationals only: Korean citizens, including those holding dual citizenship, cannot apply through international admission.
- Hold, or expect to hold before enrollment, the degree required for the chosen master’s, doctoral or integrated program.
- English: TOEFL iBT 80, TOEFL PBT 550, Academic IELTS 6.5, TOEIC 750 or New TEPS 285, taken within two years of the deadline; native-born citizens of, or graduates of universities in, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK or the USA may be exempted (graduates with GIST’s prior approval).
- Applicants unable to take a test may get conditional admission on an English-medium certificate, then must submit a qualifying score within 6 months.

Application process
- 1Apply online during the admission window, choosing a field of study and paying the application fee.
- 2Register two referees, who submit letters through GIST’s online form by the deadline.
- 3Watch email: the admission team or department may request an interview.
- 4Accept the offer, send enrollment documents and pay the matriculation fee by the enrollment deadline.
- 5Within 10 days of enrollment, post an apostilled or Korean-embassy-authenticated degree certificate and transcript.
