The Geneva Academy of International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, a joint centre of the University of Geneva and the Geneva Graduate Institute, awards a limited number of full scholarships each year to students of its two one-year LLM–MAS programmes.
Recipients study full-time in Geneva in either International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights or International Crimes, Justice and Human Rights, combining coursework with an internship or moot.
Benefits & funding
- The CHF 18,000 tuition fee plus living expenses in Geneva for 10 months (How to Apply page); the IHL programme page says awards may cover tuition, living costs, or both.
- The CHF 100 non-refundable admission fee still applies to scholarship applicants.
Eligibility
- Citizens of countries on the OECD DAC List of ODA Recipients only (the site’s “non-western countries”).
- A full law degree that lets you sit the bar exam in your country; other disciplines considered case by case with relevant experience and international-law coursework.
- Final-year students may apply if the diploma arrives by June of the admission year.
- English at C1, shown by a recognised test, unless English is your mother tongue, your degree was taught in English, or you have two years’ work or study in an English-speaking setting.
Application process
- 1Apply to one programme on the University of Geneva admission portal on the scholarship track; you cannot apply on both the scholarship and regular tracks.
- 2Upload two signed recommendation letters on letterhead (at least one academic), plus the career-plan, awards and scholarship forms from the application guidelines.
