The US-UK Fulbright Commission offers one Fulbright University of York Award, run with the university. The Institute of International Education (IIE) handles the application.
The award funds a US citizen through the first year of a taught master’s or research degree in any subject at York. The 2027–28 round closed on 6 October 2026; the IIE application opens each spring.
Benefits & funding
- First-year tuition waived, plus a £19,991 living stipend for the 10-month grant (an estimate, confirmed in the grant document; reviewed annually).
- US$1,500 travel stipend, plus a small allowance and accommodation for required Commission enrichment events.
- Accident and sickness coverage and a 24/7 mental health support line.
- Only the first year is funded; no support for dependants.
Eligibility
- US citizens who are not UK residents; dual US-UK citizens may apply.
- A bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional training or experience in a relevant field, by departure.
