Official Page

The Fox International Fellowship is an annual, full-time research exchange administered by Yale’s MacMillan Center. Yale students conduct research at a Fox partner university, while students at partner institutions compete locally for nomination to spend the fellowship at Yale.

Projects must connect with the program’s focus areas, including international affairs, environmental policy, public health, business and finance, law, economics, politics, sociology, and contemporary history. Fellows join the host university’s academic community and are expected to remain primarily in residence.

Benefits & funding

  • Outgoing Yale fellows receive a living stipend, travel support to and from the partner university, and International SOS travel assistance.
  • Fellows coming to Yale receive round-trip travel, rental housing, a living stipend, and health-insurance coverage.
  • Fellows may apply for up to USD 2,000 in additional research or conference travel funds.
  • For outgoing fellows, visa, passport, and photograph costs are not covered.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be eligible Yale students or students enrolled at a Fox exchange partner institution.
  • Yale applicants may be graduate or professional-school students; doctoral students should have completed coursework, and master’s or professional students need approval to interrupt their studies. Graduating master’s and professional students are eligible, while graduating seniors of unusual distinction with a focused project may be considered.
  • Partner-university applicants must be current master’s or doctoral students, remain enrolled in a degree-granting program throughout the fellowship, and receive formal nomination from their institution.
  • Postdoctoral applicants are not eligible. There is no general citizenship restriction, but a fellow cannot undertake the exchange in the country of their primary citizenship.
  • Applicants need language ability sufficient for the research and host community. Applicants coming to Yale normally submit recent TOEFL or IELTS results unless English is their institution’s primary language of instruction.
  • Two recommendation letters must come from faculty members at accredited academic institutions.
