FotoEvidence Association runs the FotoEvidence Book Award to publish documentary photography addressing human-rights violations and serious injustice. The 2026 cycle focused on work documenting the impact of the war in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

Professional and amateur photographers submitted work online for a collaborative photo book. The cycle is closed, and the official site does not state the next opening date.

Benefits & funding

  • There is no application fee.
  • FotoEvidence works with selected photographers on editorial decisions and publishes the selected work as a photo book.
  • Photographers receive 25 complimentary copies; multi-author books use a separate arrangement.
  • The winner and two finalists are presented in exhibitions at the Bronx Documentary Center in New York and the International Month of Photojournalism Festival in Padua, with other venues possible depending on the project.

Eligibility

  • Professional and amateur photographers may apply.
  • Entrants must be at least 18 years old on the date of entry.
  • For the 2026 cycle, submitted work had to document the impact of the war in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
  • Entrants must own the copyright or be authorized by the copyright holder, and they are responsible for required third-party releases and permissions.
  • FotoEvidence Association employees and directors and their immediate families are ineligible; the competition is void where prohibited.
  • No nationality, residency, education, gender, or professional-experience requirement is stated.

Application process

    Register through the linked Picter submission system while the application window is open.

    Upload up to 20 photographs, each with a title and caption in the file information; files must be JPEG, RGB, 1500 pixels on the longest side, maximum quality, and named in the requested format.

    Provide a story of up to 1500 words and a resume or CV in a Word document containing a current phone number and email address.
  4. 4
    Confirm agreement with the FotoEvidence terms and conditions and submit before the deadline.
