The Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program is the Thai national competition run by the Thailand – United States Educational Foundation (TUSEF), the Fulbright commission in Bangkok.
Grantees spend nine months at a U.S. university, assisting with Thai language teaching and taking graduate-level courses of their own. They also represent Thai culture on campus and in the surrounding community.
The program is aimed at early-career English teachers based at Thai universities and secondary schools, and up to six grants are awarded each year. The 2027 round has closed and its results are announced; the program page states an application window of March to June rather than a fixed deadline date.

Eligibility
- Thai citizens aged 21 to 35.
- Currently teaching English at a Thai university or secondary school; early-career teachers are preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from a Thai university.
- A valid English test score: TOEFL iBT 79 or above, IELTS 6.0 or above, or Duolingo English Test 115 or above.
- Little or no previous experience in the United States is preferred.

Application process

- 2Submit a resume or CV, a valid passport or Thai national ID, official diplomas and transcripts of all post-secondary study, and an English proficiency score report.
- 3Arrange three letters of recommendation, which the recommenders send in directly rather than through the applicant.

- 5Selected candidates are matched with a U.S. host institution the following May and attend a pre-departure orientation in June.
