Flatiron Institute research assistants and research associates spend the summer on a mentor-designed computational research project in New York City. Research assistants are undergraduate students, while research associates are graduate students or first- or second-year predoctoral students.

Applicants choose among teams in computational biology, mathematics, neuroscience, quantum physics, catalysis, artificial intelligence and cosmic microwave background research. The internships are part of the Simons Foundation’s in-house scientific research division and typically last 11 weeks.
