Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown

Application Deadline

December 15, 2026

The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts, offers 20 seven-month residencies each year to emerging writers and visual artists.

Fellows live on the Center’s campus from October 1 to April 30 and spend the time on their own work. Writers apply in poetry or fiction; visual artists apply through a separate call. This entry covers the 2027–2028 fellowship year.

Benefits & funding

  • An apartment for the seven months, plus a studio for visual artists
  • $1,250 a month and a $1,000 exit stipend (2026–2027 figures)
  • Rona Jaffe Foundation Fellowship: one woman writer a year also receives $2,500; for U.S. permanent residents without a first book in standard edition, considered automatically
  • Fellowship Access Fund: one-time awards of $500–$2,500 for extraordinary financial need
  • Fellows must stay in residence: no absence over 14 consecutive days or 30 days in total

Eligibility

  • 18 or older
  • Any nationality; non-U.S. citizens need an SSN or ITIN, and the Center gives an acceptance letter but no visa legal advice
  • Not enrolled in a degree program during the fellowship year
  • Writers: no published or contracted full-length book of creative work in any genre
  • Visual artists: emerging; high-profile museum exhibitions or biennials, a tenure-track professorship, or awards meant for mid-career artists disqualify
