The Feminist Investigative Journalism Scholarship is run by the Institute for Journalism and Social Change (IJSC), an Amsterdam-based nonprofit, together with SOAS, University of London. It funds two students to take the online MA in Global Data Journalism at SOAS — a fully remote master’s that can be studied from anywhere in the world. The programme trains reporters, researchers and advocates to use data-driven investigation to expose injustice, with a focus on gender justice and the rights of women and LGBTQI communities. Alongside the degree, recipients join IJSC’s network of investigative journalists and work on real reporting projects.

Eligibility

  • A minimum UK 2:2 undergraduate degree, or the international equivalent
  • Separate admission to the SOAS MA Global Data Journalism (Online) is required
  • No nationality or gender restriction — applicants from communities historically underrepresented in the media, particularly women and LGBTQI people in the Global South, are especially encouraged to apply
  • Study is remote, so there is no residency or relocation requirement

Application process

    Apply for admission to the SOAS MA Global Data Journalism (Online) programme.

    Complete the IJSC scholarship application form with your CV.
  3. 3
    Submit three essays of 300–400 words each: how you would bring lived experience to impactful journalism; your interest in investigative and data journalism for gender justice; and an example of a story that a feminist approach could have told better.
