ReSound is a two-year, four-semester joint master in sound run by three schools: the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in Dublin, Universidade Lusófona in Lisbon and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius. It sits inside the FilmEU European University alliance.
The whole cohort moves together: semester 1 in Dublin, semester 2 in Lisbon, semester 3 in Vilnius, then each student picks one of the three schools for a practice-based thesis in semester 4. The mobility is compulsory and the degree totals 120 ECTS.
Teaching covers acoustics, music and audio production, film sound, interactive systems and immersive audio, with graduates heading into film, games, XR, sound art and research. Each school contributes audio labs, recording studios and Dolby Atmos suites. Graduates receive joint and multiple degrees: an MA in Sound from IADT, a Master in Sound Production Technology from Lusófona and an MA in Film from LMTA.
Benefits & funding
- Erasmus Mundus scholarships are awarded on merit: no tuition fees plus a stipend of €1,400 per month.
- The stipend begins once you arrive in Dublin and are fully registered; travel to Ireland is not covered.
- Self-funded places cost €15,000 for the four semesters — €7,500 before semester 1 and €7,500 before semester 3.
- Studios and equipment at all three schools: audio labs, recording studios, Dolby Atmos suites, production kit.
- Extra funding for students with disabilities covers assistance by third persons, medical attendance, supportive equipment and transport.
- The consortium estimates living costs at €600–1,000 per month, varying by city.
Eligibility
- A bachelor’s degree in sound, music, film or media studies, or an equivalent qualification at EQF level 6 or above.
- Applicants from other fields, including computational science and related disciplines, are considered on relevant sound or media experience; formal study of sound is not required.
- Final-year undergraduates may apply with proof of enrolment; any offer is conditional on proof of graduation.
- Open to European and non-European applicants alike.
- No age limit, and no limit on how long ago the undergraduate degree was earned.
- English proficiency from the last two years: IELTS 6.0 with no component below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79, Duolingo 110, Cambridge B2 or LanguageCert ESOL — or evidence of a full qualification of at least EQF level 4, lasting one academic year, taught in English.
