Benefits & funding

• A stipend; the official page does not publish an amount.
• Office space and some support for research expenses, including travel.
• Harvard benefits, including health insurance, for eligible postdoctoral fellows.
• Full or partial reimbursement of health-insurance premiums may be available to predoctoral fellows and fellows whose PhD is more than five years old.
• Access to Harvard facilities and participation in the Belfer Center research community.
• Housing is not included.

Eligibility

• Eligible profiles include predoctoral candidates, recent recipients of a PhD or equivalent degree, visiting scholars, and researchers at the junior faculty level.
• Predoctoral applicants must have passed their general examinations and made significant progress on their dissertation.
• Applicants using the postdoctoral route must have received their PhD within five years of September of the coming academic year and must commit to a full-time appointment.
• Applicants are expected to have academic or professional experience relevant to the fellowship research area; no fixed number of years is stated.
• The reviewed official materials publish no nationality or prior-residency restriction, and visa sponsorship is available.
• Fellows are expected to reside in the Cambridge or Boston area for the appointment and devote at least four-fifths of their time to Center-related research and writing.

Application process

   When the application portal opens, create or access an account and select the Energy, Climate, and Technology Policy Fellowship.

   Submit a CV or résumé and a three-to-five-page research statement covering the question, policy relevance, planned outputs, resources, and work plan.

   Upload a single-authored English writing sample of fewer than 50 pages.

   Provide contact information for three recommenders; they submit their letters through emailed portal instructions.

   State whether full or partial funding is requested and identify any other potential funding sources.

   Submit a complete, final application before the deadline; submitted applications cannot be edited.
