EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program — Course / Training

The EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program is run by the U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA network. It helps academically strong international students who are likely to secure full financial aid from a U.S. college or university but cannot afford the up-front application and enrollment costs.

Participants receive intensive preparation and work with EducationUSA advisers on undergraduate or graduate applications. The same program is delivered through local annual cohorts, with each participating center setting its own availability, schedule, and route-specific rules.

Benefits & funding

EducationUSA pays approved up-front costs connected with applying to and enrolling at U.S. institutions.
Covered costs may include standardized testing, university application fees, translations, study materials, document delivery, local travel, or airfare, depending on the local route.
Participants also receive intensive application advising and preparation from EducationUSA staff.
The program does not itself award a university tuition scholarship; applicants are expected to compete for full financial aid from a U.S. institution.

Application process

Follow that center’s local call and submit its required form and evidence of academic strength and financial need.

Complete the local selection stages; a current Brazil undergraduate route uses an English application, a short video, an online interview, and an English assessment.

Finalists undergo the program’s selective review involving an EducationUSA adviser, a Regional Educational Advising Coordinator, and the Public Affairs Section of a U.S. embassy or consulate.

Selected participants work with advisers on U.S. applications and use approved funding for the costs specified by their local cohort.
