The Edinburgh Surgery Online Global Scholarships are awarded by the University of Edinburgh to widen access to its online MSc Surgical Sciences for surgeons-in-training from lower-resource settings. The programme, delivered with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, is a three-year, part-time, fully online master’s that lets practising clinicians study while they continue working. A limited number of scholarships are offered each year, each covering full tuition fees plus a contribution toward internet-access costs. The scheme is aimed at nationals and residents of low-income and lower-middle-income countries, as classified by the World Bank.

Eligibility

  • Must be both a national of, and resident in, a low-income or lower-middle-income country (World Bank classification) for the entirety of the studies.
  • Must hold a conditional or unconditional offer of admission to the online MSc Surgical Sciences; preference is given to applicants holding an unconditional offer.
  • Must be in current employment and supply employer details (the programme requires a supervised clinical post for its duration).
  • Entry to the MSc requires an accredited medical degree (MBChB or equivalent) and English-language proficiency (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5).
